Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai

Director: K Murali Mohan Rao
Producer: TIPS
Cast: Jackie Shroff, Aftab Shivdasani, Ameesha Patel, Ashish Vidhyarthi, Vrajesh Hirjee, Pooja Batra and Neena Kulkarni

After the disastrous Kahin Pyaar Ka Ho Jaaye, Murli Mohan Rao comes up with another dud of a film. Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai indicates how bad films are made, especially when you have a borrowed script with a revolutionary ending.

Remade from Balasekharan's Tamil film Love Today, KYPH is about Rahul (Aftab) who is in love with Sandhya (Ameesha), but does not tell her for four years and neglects his studies as well. Sandhya concentrates on her career more as a distraction from her alcoholic and neurotic father who tortures her mother (Neena Kulkarni). Sandhya refuses Rahul's love and her father tries to make sure that he not only troubles Rahul by locking him up in the cop house, but also troubles his elder brother doctor (Jackie Shroff).

Sandhya's friend (Pooja Batra) tries to convince her to a certain extent about Rahul's love. Once Rahul goes in search of Sandhya who has allegedly been carted away by her brother to Hyderabad and his brother dies in the meantime. Rahul is even unable to be part of his brother's funeral. Now Rahul realizes that love isn't anything. As Jackie says in the film, "Love is not the heart of life, it is a part of life." Saying so, Rahul refuses Sandhya even when she is ready to go ahead to reciprocate his love after this incident. Thus, in the end, the hero refuses the heroine who has already refused him. If this is what filmmaking is all about, this film should be exempted from entertainment tax. If there was no entertainment in a film, how can there be any tax!

Performances are bad. Only Vrajesh Hirjee as Aftab's friend impresses with his comic role. Music is bad and comes up at random. Jackie, Aftab and Ameesha should go back to acting classes. And the director should be sent to the FTII to learn filmmaking. Kya yehi filmmaking hai? is all you are forced to ask.
