New KBC or Old KBC

STAR Plus, which gave Indian television audience the phenomenal show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) in 2000 and took it off the air last year due to a drop in television ratings, is busy exploring alternative ideas to repackage their prized anchor Amitabh Bachchan in a new format. STAR executives feel that bringing out the show again in the same format as the last time might lessen the appeal of the show. To prevent this from happening and to cash onto the popularity of KBC's anchor Amitabh Bachchan, STAR is trying it's best to come up with a program which will catch the fancy of Indian television viewers like KBC did. Also complicating the matter is the Cricket World Cup which is supposed to get underway in March 2003. "The last thing we want is to get KBC into a silly clash with cricket. Whenever we re-start, it will run straight through all its episodes." said Samir Nair, the newly appointed chief operating officer of STAR. So, expect to see the good old KBC or a new game show with AB on air either in October 2002 or after the World Cup in March 2003.
